Cairo – Ambassador Nabila Makram Ebeid, Immigration Minister, contacted Eng. Mohamed Al-Iraqi, head of the Egyptian community in Qatar, to make sure the Egyptian expatriates are in good condition in the Gulf Arab country, which Egypt has cut ties with on Monday, June 5, 2017. The minister said Al-Iraqi confirmed that Qatari authorities have not taken any procedures against the expats and there were no reports on the contract termination of any Egyptians working in the Gulf Arab country. Ebeid ensured that there are flights from Doha to Cairo for Egyptian expats wishing to return home. The minister greeted the Egyptian community in Qatar, emphasizing that she is following up the situation. Furthermore, Ebeid asked the expats to call the ministry or phone her directly in case they should have emergency complaints. Egypt said on Monday it cut ties with Qatar, accusing the Gulf Arab state of supporting "terrorist" organizations including the Muslim Brotherhood, according to Egypt's state news agency. In a statement released by the Foreign Ministry, Egypt said that Qatar ignites the terrorism in the EgyptianSinai Peninsula and promotes extremist thoughts among Egyptian people.
