Egyptian army killed Monday three Wilayat Sinai militants in Sinai, Al Bawaba News reported . A fierce gun battle occurred involving army personnel and militants as they were trying to plant a number of improvised explosive devices. The army succeeded to defuse the planted IEDs and killed the militants. Since September 2013, the Egyptian army and police have been carrying out an ongoing military campaign against Wilayat Sinai, formerly known as Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis, after it had claimed responsibility for several attacks targeting Egyptian military and police personnel. In 2014, the group announced its allegiance to Islamic State jihadist group.
