The Egyptian army killed Monday eight militants related to Wilayat Sinai terrorist group during a military pre-emptive raid witnessed in North Sinai's Sheikh Zuweid city, Al Bawaba News reported. The army had launched several airstrikes by Apache aircrafts targeting terrorist hideouts in Sheikh Zuweid, killing eight militants and wounding dozens. Earlier today, the army succeeded in defusing six improvised explosive devices, which were planted by Wilayat Sinai militants on a military road in Sheikh Zuweid. Since September 2013, the Egyptian army has been carrying out an ongoing military campaign against Wilayat Sinai, formerly known as Ansar Bayt Al Maqdis, after it claimed responsibility for several deadly attacks targeting Egyptian military and police personnel. In 2014, the group announced its allegiance to Islamic State (IS) jihadist group.
