Improving Egypt's economy was on President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi's top priorities in his speech before the UN General Assembly in New York. Al-Sisi said, "Egypt's ambitious 2015 - 2030 sustainable development program launched during Sharm El-Sheikh Economic Summit in March requires participation of all sectors of society especially the Egyptian women." He highlighted the inauguration of new Suez Canal, Egypt's gift to the world, within only one year placing Egypt among the promising regional centers for world trade and investment. Al-Sisi called the international society to cooperate and support the developing countries' attempts to improve their troubled economies, indicating the obstacles that Egypt and other countries in the region face, especially the terrorism phenomena.
