The UAE will participate in this year's United Nations Sustainable Development Summit to be held in New York this year. The UAE's participation in the three-day summit sessions from September 25-27 comes on the sidelines of the 70th Regular Session of the UN General Assembly which closes on October 6. The UAE will illustrate their contribution to the development of global strategy when achieving sustainable development goals. The UAE will discuss the achievement of international leadership indicators and becoming the number one country in the world in terms of generosity in proportion to the gross national income, based on data presented by the Development Assistance Committee of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development. Shaikha Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of International Cooperation and Development, head of the UAE Committee for the Coordination of Humanitarian Foreign Aid, will deliver a speech on behalf of the UAE. The address will reflect the efforts made by the UAE to implement the "Millennium Development Goals" and emphasise the country's commitment to joining the world in achieving the new agenda. The state delegation will also discuss efforts to achieve goals set in the "Development Plan 2030" which include enabling access to clean energy, adequate and affordable food and high quality education and health care. They also strive to achieve sustainable economic growth, maintain sound environmental regulations and increase the effectiveness of resources. The UAE's participation in this summit will emphasise the significant role played by the country and the tireless efforts made to address the pressing global issues. These issues include food security, climate change, water scarcity and infrastructure development all in line with the state's commitment to support the UN's efforts to achieve the "Millennium Development Goals" by 2015. Last August, 193-member countries of the United Nations approved a plan entitled "Transforming our World: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development." The plan is a road map to end poverty in the world and build a decent life for all without exclusion within the next 15 years. The plan includes 17 sustainable development goals, most notable is the eradication of poverty in all its forms and in the world. The plan also includes a pledge by member states to take urgent measures to combat climate change, in particular through reaching an agreement during the climate conference scheduled to be held in Paris at the end of November.
