Wilayat Sinai terrorist group will restructure the group after the death of its military council commander Rashid Abu al-Qasim, Al Bawaba News reported Monday. Sources confirmed that the group will be divided into three sections; the first will be in Sinai led by Abu Zubair Salama while the other two sections will be in north of the new valley governorate and Canal cities. The source added that they believes that former professor at the Suez Canal University Mohammed Ahmed Nasr will be the general supervisor of the three sections, pointing out that he seeks to recruit foreign militants to join Wilayat Sinai group. Since September 2013, the Egyptian army has been carrying out an ongoing military campaign against Wilayat Sinai, formerly known as Ansar Bayt Al Maqdis, after it claimed responsibility for several deadly attacks targeting Egyptian military and police personnel. In 2014, the group announced its allegiance to Islamic State (IS) jihadist group.
