An Egyptian military source denied on Friday any terrorist attacks against security checkpoints in the Sinai Peninsula, adding the security situations were controllable, al-Bawaba News reported. "The security checkpoints in cities of Sheikh Zuwaid, Rafah and al-Arish are equipped with high-tech techniques that could detect any hostile attack," the source said. Media reports said Thursday night a terrorist attack targeted a security checkpoint in Sheikh Zuwaid, leaving a number of police personnel dead. This comes in coincidence with the inauguration of the new Suez Canal, eastern Egypt. A large number of world leaders attended the event. The Sinai Peninsula has been a home to string of deadly attacks, mostly against military and police personnel since the ouster of Muslim Brotherhood rule, July 2013.
