Egypt's Salafist Call attempts to raise the sectarian tensions in the country, said counselor Ahmed Al Fadaly, chairperson of Independence Current. Fadaly added, in a statement on Tuesday, that leading member of the Salafist Call Yasser Borhami works to drive wedge between the Egyptian people through launching extremist fatwas contradicting with the Egyptian spirit of tolerance. The Egyptian politician criticized the Borhami's statements against Shiites, saying, "Such statements could raise sectarian tensions in the Egyptian community and to undermine Azhar's efforts to support the equality and citizenship." He called Azhar's Grand Imam and Egypt's Minister of Endowment to perform their role to suspend such attempts aiming to destabilize the country during the current critical period.
