A High Court in South Africa has issued an interim order preventing Sudanese President Omar Al Bashir from leaving the country, several media outlets reported Sunday. It says Mr Bashir will have to stay until the court hears an application later on Sunday on whether he should be handed over to the International Criminal Court (ICC), according to the court's order, while the fate of Al Bashir is unclear. The International Criminal Court had demanded South Africa to arrest Bashir during his visit to Johannesburg to attend the African Union (AU) Summit. Mr. Bashir was wanted by the ICC since 2009 over charges of committing war crimes and genocide during the Darfur conflict that was erupted in 2003. The ICC called on South Africa to "spare no effort" in detaining Al Bashir. However, he was welcomed in Johannesburg, as well as his foreign minister and top Sudanese officials. He used to be careful in his overseas trips not to get arrested, because of the ICC warrant against him. Darfur has suffered from conflicts since 2003, where more than 300,000 people have reportedly died, mostly from disease, according to the UN.
