A Cairo court sentenced Saturday 12 Muslim Brotherhood loyalists to two years in prison over violence-related crimes and acquitted six others in the same case, Al Bawaba News reported. The defendants faced charges of staging violent clashes with police forces December 2013 in the eastern city of Suez. A large number of MB elements have been convicted in violence and terror-related crimes since former president Mohamed Morsi was ousted July 2013 amid mass street protests. Morsi was sentenced to death May 16 over jailbreak and espionage charges. The final verdict regarding the death sentence will be announced June 16.
