Islamic State (IS) militants have closed Ramadi Barrage in Iraq's Anbar province reducing the Euphrates River water level, Al Bawaba News reported Friday. The move aims to cut off water to thousands of families and to destroy agricultural lands belonging to residents who support the security forces, observers said. Anbar Provincial Council Head, Sabah Karhot said that Anbar faced a humanitarian disaster after the closure of Ramadi Barrage, demanding the Iraqi armed forces to speed up the liberation of the city and to regain the Barrage. The province has witnessed fierce clashes between the Iraqi forces and the terrorist group since the latter controlled large areas of Iraq in 2014.
