At least 1,031 were killed in Iraq during May due to the terrorist attacks and violence witnessed in the country, UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) stated in a statement Monday. The statement added that 665 persons, including 59 policemen and 366 security forces personnel, were killed, while 313 others were injured. It added that Baghdad was the worst affected province, with 343 civilian killed and 701 wounded, adding that Diyala, Saladin, Nineveh and Kirkuk provinces were less affected. UNAMI pointed out that Anbar and Ramadi provinces witness fierce clashes between Iraqi military forces and Islamic State (IS) jihadist group militants, who seized control of the province.
