Egyptian military forces have killed three highly dangerous extremists militants during a military operation in the violence-plagued Sinai Peninsula, Al Bawaba News reported Thursday. Army spokesman Brigadier General Mohamed Samir said that the border guards managed to kill the three terrorist elements after intensive exchanges of gunfire with Egyptian soldiers in the North Sinai city of Rafah. Since the ouster of president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013, the Sinai peninsula has witnessed bloody clashes between security forces and extremist groups which target army and security personnel. A state of emergency has been declared in the northern part of Sinai since a militant attack on an Egyptian army checkpoint killed more than 30 soldiers in October 2014.
