Giza Criminal Court sentenced 71 defendants affiliating to Muslim Brotherhood (MB) to life imprisonment on Wednesday, while two minors to 10 years in prison, Al Bawaba News reported. Defendants face arson charges in the case known as the "Burning of Kerdasa Church." The charges also include possession of unlicensed firearms, attempted murder, blocking the road, joining a terrorist organization, and resisting arrest. The prosecution accused them of committing violence against the citizens and burning a church in Kerdasa in August 2013. The violent actions came in a protest against the dispersal of Rabaa and Nahda sit-ins, staged by ousted president Mohamed Morsi's supporters, August 2013. Life sentence in Egyptian law means spending 25 years in prison. Minor defendants cannot be sentenced to life in prison according to Egyptian law.
