At least 36 militants from Islamic State (IS) terrorist group were killed Sunday and dozens others injured, in different areas of Iraq, as Iraqi troops, US-led coalition and Kurdish Peshmerga forces intensified their operations, Al Bawaba News reported. Security sources said that Peshmerga backed by the International coalition's air strikes has thwarted a terrorist attack attempt by IS militants targeted a bridge in Mosul. Around 12 IS militants as well as a Kurdish fighter were killed.
Mosul, Iraq's second largest city, has been under the control of IS group since June 2014.
Moreover, the coalition's warplanes and Iraqi security forces have targeted numerous military sites in Iraq's Anbar affiliated to IS group, killing nearly 18 militants.
Since 2014, Al Anbar has witnessed fierce clashes between Iraqi military forces and IS militants, who took over the province.
In Saladin province, six IS militants were killed during their attempt to implement a suicide attack northeastern Baiji city.
The commander of Saladin operation, Lt. Gen. Abdul Wahab Al Saadi said that the Iraqi forces and Hashad Al Shaabi (Popular Crowd) Shiite fighters continued their operations in order to expel IS militants from the province, pointing out that the forces have killed three IS leaders.
