Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmed al-Tayeb, met Stephen Beecroft, US Ambassador to Cairo on Wednesday to discuss the current Arab, Islamic and international situations. During the meeting, Al-Tayeb urged the US ambassador to stop working against the will of the people by supporting some groups that work against their own home. The Grand Imam expressed the Egyptian people's rejection for the reception of the United States for some of the leaders of the radical currents in the White House, stressing that by doing that, US will be working against the will of the Egyptians who revolted against these extreme currents. Grand Imam also condemned the US attempt to impose a Libyan government that includes some unpopular currents, the American administration to allow the Libyan people to choose their own government. He also criticized the position of US administration on the Egyptian air strikes against the terrorist strongholds in Libya. For his part, the US ambassador said that Egypt is the most influential country in the Arab and Muslim world, praising Al-Azhar's role in countering terrorist and extreme ideas.
