CAIRO: The British Ambassador in Cairo, James Watt, praised Al-Azhar document about Egypt's future. He said it proves there is no contradiction between Islam and democracy. "It is my third week in Cairo amid different political developments. Most of these developments are not expected even from the efficient political observers. I think the rate of optimism increased recently for many reasons, including Al-Azhar's document," Watt said. He added the document is an official statement formulated by a committee of Al-Azhar's scholars, lead by the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Dr. Ahmed al-Tayeb. He clarified the document proved compatibility between Islam and the principles of democracy. Watt added the document stressed on an important situation during current discussions before holding the next parliamentary elections. The document will establish the main principles, which will avoid extremism.
