Security forces confirmed that eight security men, seven soldiers and one officer were injured in an explosion near the Ain Shams police station in Cairo, Wednesday, Youm7 Newspaper reported. The blast occurred when an explosive device was flung at a security checkpoint by unidentified assailants. Civil Defence forces were immediately deployed to the crime scene to put out the fire, after people called them to report the sound of explosions coming from the direction of the police station. Experts are combing the site for clues regarding the identity of the perpetrators and the device they used. The Interior Ministry has recently been receiving numerous reports about suspected devices planted in the streets and public places. Most of the reports have turned out to be false alarms. In the past year, many extremist groups have attacked the security forces, mostly in Sinai, using bombs and firearms; but lately they have been mounting operations in the capital.
