Al-Jazeera Australian journalist Peter Greste arrived Cyprus on Sunday after Egypt's President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi approved releasing him following 400 days in Jail. Sources from Cairo International Airport said that Greste arrived to the airport accompanied by Interpol guards, then he flied to Cyprus, Albawaba News reported. Greste's deportation came under the presidential decree no. 140 in 2014, which stipulates the deportation of jailed foreigners to spend their sentences in their own countries, or to re-tried there. Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that it contacted the Australian Embassy in Cairo to book the flight ticket for the Australian journalist. Greste is one of the three jailed Al-Jazeera journalists who were sentenced in 2014 to seven years in prison by the criminal court on charges of belonging to a terrorist organization, disturbing the public peace, and publishing false news. President Sisi said during an interview with CNBC channel last month that he seeks to resolve Al-Jazeera journalists' issue as soon as possible. The lawyer of Al-Jazeera's defendants, Shabaan Saeed said that official requests and petitions have been submitted to the presidency to negotiate releasing the other two Al-Jazeera journalists. Saeed added that he believes Egypt will release the rest of the journalists especially Mohamed Fahmy who has a dual citizenship of Egypt and Canada.
