Egyptian archaeologist, Zahi Hawas gave a lecture in front of Giza's Great Sphinx, for the first time after the completion of its restoration that lasted two months. During the lecture, attended by 50 Americans including heads of travel agencies, antiquities scholars and businessmen, Hawas revealed new information about the statue as well as archaeological discoveries made in the tombs of workers who built the Pyramids. Hawas told Al-Bawaba English that he gave the lecture in order to attract tourists back to Egypt, after the regression of the country's tourism in the past three years. The Great Sphinx of Giza underwent restoration and maintenance procedures last September, after previous restoration processes that took place several years back. The statue, carved out in the most vulnerable part of the Giza Plateau was in dire need for regular maintenance to eliminate or diminish damage factors.
