Egypt hosted three international women tennis tournaments in Sharm El-Sheikh, reports Ghada Abdel-Kader Under the supervision of the International Tennis Federation (ITF), the Egyptian Tennis Federation (ETF) hosted three international women tennis tournaments with a total prize money of $10,000. The first tournament was held 18-24 June at the Jolie Ville Golf & Resort Tennis Club in Sharm El-Sheikh. Some 40 international women players from 14 countries, including Egypt, Belgium, Russia, Germany, Kazakhstan, Hong Kong, Pakistan, Hungary, Georgia, Serbia, Malta, Mexican, Australia and Great Britain, participated in the tournament. In the results of women's singles, Hong Kong's world ranking number two, Wing-Yau Venise Chan, beat world number one Ekaterina Yashina 6-7(5) 6-3 6-4 in the final. In the semifinal, Yashina beat Russian Anna Morgina 7-5, 6-3. Also, Chan defeated Nadia Abdala 6-0, 6-4. In the results of women's doubles, Britain's Sabrina Bamburac and Serbia's Barbara Bonic defeated Russians Polina Monova and Yashina 6-4,7-6(0). In the semifinal, Russians Monova and Yashina won over Russians Alisa Danilova and Alina Mikheeva 6-3, 6-3 while, Bamburac and Bonic defeated Mexican Nadia Abdala and Russian Evgeniya Svintsova 6-4, 6-3. Egyptian players Habiba Shaker, Nour Azzouz and Nihal Aasar participated in the preliminary rounds. ITF representative and supervisor Khaled El-Sergani said: "It is a good opportunity for junior players to gain more experience and collect more points to improve their world rankings." The second tournament will run 25 June to 1 July while the third competition will be 2-8 July.
