Actor Ahmed Rateb, along with the imam of the Omar Makram Mosque Sheikh Mazhar Shahine, handed out the prizes to the honourees including Arab theatre icon Samiha Ayoub, actress Safiya El-Emari (whose award was handed to actress Nada Bassiouni ), actresses Maali Zayed, Ragaa Hussein, Inaam Salousa, critic Khairia El-Belshawi, journalist Fatma Naout, writer Farida El-Shoubashi and the Tahrir hero who lost his eyes in the protests, Ahmed Harara. Special honours went to the mother of the late Khaled Said, the spouse of the Maspero victim Mina Daniel and Al-Ahram Weekly 's very own Nashwa Abdel-Tawab, the wife of Al-Azhar's martyred Sheikh Emad Effat ; the ceremony was enlivened with the powerful voice of Ali El-Haggar. photos: Ayman Barayez The Nile Lions Club (NLC), headed by the multitalented artist Samir Sabri, held a ceremony celebrating Family Day on the Le Pacha Nile Boat. The ceremony was under the auspices of Minister of Information Ahmed Anis and Minister of Social Affairs Nagwa Khalil, in collaboration with other lion clubs all around Egypt. The NLC honoured a number of figures including the renowned antiquities expert Zahi Hawass, the journalist Salah Montasser, and veteran actresses Samiha Ayoub and Madiha Youssri, as well as the media figure Nagwa Abul-Naga, the mother of actress Laila Elwi and the daughter of Egypt's late Monroe Hind Rostom, together with actresses Nabila Ebeid and Elham Shahine, and talented musician Mohamed Sultan. The ceremony was concluded by the music of the great Egyptian musician Mohamed Abdel-Wahab. At Al-Refaai Mosque versatile artist Khaled El-Sawi -- actor, poet, composer and lyricist -- tied the knot with Maye Zaki among family and close friends. El-Sawi and Zaki met in the aftermath of the revolution at a political event. The Cairo Cinema Theatre saw the distribution of the 38 Film Association for Egyptian Cinema awards in a gigantic celebration that honoured the name of late Salah Marei. The ceremony honoured a number of Egyptian filmmakers such as Menna Shoeib and Sandrine Samuel for their film Hekayet Midan (The Story of a Square), Hisham Mohamed for his film Misr Tulad Min Gedid (Egypt Reborn All Over Again), film producer Mohamed Hefzi and producer Boushra for the films Asmaa and Tahrir 2011, actor Ahmed Ramadan for the film 18 Days, Moataz Ragheb for his film Maza Hadath Fi Masr (What Happened in Egypt), Mohamed Dahi for the film Ra'yes bel Sodfa (A President by Chance) and Niveen Shalabi for her film Ana wel Agenda (The Agenda and I). The Syrian Youth of Tomorrow organised a ceremony commemorating the anniversary of the Syrian revolution at the Press Syndicate, downtown. Syrian human rights activist Haitham Al-Maleh and Syrian artist Louise Abdel-Kerim gave speeches during the ceremony expressing deep sorrow for the disastrous events in Syria. The ceremony ended with a speech given by Islamic thinker and preacher Youssef El-Qaradawi who wished the best for the Syrian revolution. The House of Arab Singing organised a prestigious ceremony in collaboration with the Cultural Development Fund, headed by Mohamed Abu Seada commemorating the anniversary of the late renowned Egyptian musician Mohamed Abdel-Wahab at the Amir Bashtak Palace in Gammaliya district. Abdel-Wahab 's best and most popular songs were performed by young singers such as Mohsen Farouk, Dalia Fouad and Mohamed Nasr in the presence of Abdel-Wahab 's family members. The American University in Cairo's second Tahrir Book Fair is scheduled to take place on the Tahrir Square Campus -- with free admission from 22 to 24 March (daily from 11am until 6pm), offering new titles in English, Arabic and other languages and gifts for the festive season. Many participating bookstores, publishers, gift stores and other booksellers are offering bargains and special offers. It also offers a rich cultural programme.
