The national carrier EgyptAir revealed figures showing a successful opening for the Omrah season. The airline said it had transferred 64,237 pilgrims over the six weeks. "We have operated 436 flights from Cairo and Alexandria to Jedddah and Al-Madinah between 24 January and 10 March," stated Yasser El-Ramly, EgyptAir director Commercial Department. "The operated flights include 342 to Jeddah and 94 to Al-Madinah." According to El-Ramly, the airline is carrying out a study at present to prepare for the peak season of Omrah. "This will take place during the small pilgrimage Omrah of the holy months of Rajab, Shaaban and the Great Ramadan. The high occupancy and extreme increase of operation during theses months make them the peak of the season every year. Thus, we are committed to complete the preparations before hand," he added. The carrier plans to transfer more than half million pilgrims to the Saudi holy lands. " The total number of pilgrims targeted by our plans is 540,370 passengers, starting from the Prophet Omrah which took place last month, till Ramadan Omrah scheduled to be completed by 18 August. This makes a total operation of 1,927 flights -- 1515 flights to Jeddah and 412 flights to Al-Madinah," El-Ramly added. .
