In the North African country, the Egyptian football team is hoping to qualify for London 2012. Ahmed Morsy reports EGYPT's Olympic football team, under coach Hani Ramzi, enters the qualifiers in Morocco scheduled to start Saturday. The tournament includes eight teams divided into two groups. Group A has hosts Morocco, Algeria, Senegal and Nigeria which was the first African side to win gold at an Olympics, in 1996. Group B has Egypt, which hasn't qualified for the Olympic Games since 1992, alongside Ivory Coast, South Africa and Gabon. The tournament was supposed to be held in Egypt before the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) asked the African football association to move it for security concerns. The qualifiers are from 26 November to 10 December. Regarding the new criteria for qualifying, the top two teams in each group will qualify directly for the London 2012 Olympics. The second placed teams will play one another, the winner of which will also qualify. The loser might still make it to London but must first take on a side from Asia in a play-off. In Group B, the Egyptians are scheduled to meet Gabon on Sunday. South Africa plays Ivory Coast on the same day. On Wednesday 30 November, Egypt faces Ivory Coast while South Africa meets Gabon. On 3 December, Egypt meets South Africa and Gabon plays against Ivory Coast.
