Economist detained THE SOUTHERN Cairo Prosecution on Monday remanded economy expert Abdel-Khalek Farouk in custody for four days after he was accused of publishing a book containing false data about the economy. During questioning, Farouk said he obtained his data from officially published documents and reliable sources. Farouk was arrested on Sunday, a few days after the release of his latest book, 'Is Egypt Really a Poor Country?' Last week Farouk said that security forces had confiscated copies of his book and arrested the publisher Ibrahim Al-Khatib. According to security sources, Farouk was arrested following an order issued by the prosecutor-general. Following his detention, police informed him that the book was the reason they had taken him in, according to Farouk's lawyers. On Monday several political forces and groups announced their full support for Farouk. Body with missing organs THE STATE Information Service (SIS) on Sunday issued a statement on a British tourist who died during a holiday in Hurghada and whose organs are reportedly missing. The statement denied allegations that the organs of David Humphries, 62, had been stolen. According to the statement, British media outlets had published flawed reports about the return of the body to the UK without its heart and kidneys. The SIS said samples of Humphries' organs were sent to government laboratories for analysis to investigate the cause of his death and will be delivered to his relatives. The statement said this was done following an autopsy order from the prosecutor-general's office. The prosecutor-general is entitled by law to issue an autopsy order, with all the requisite sampling and necessary medical procedures without seeking the consent of the family of the deceased. It is an established and customary procedure in scientific references and schools of forensic science around the globe, the statement said. Humphries, a mechanic, had started his holiday with his family on 7 September. He suffered chest pain and saw a doctor on 13 September. The following day he was hospitalised overnight. On 18 September, he had been playing with his grandchildren in a swimming pool when he collapsed. He was taken to the Red Sea Hospital in Hurghada where he died. His body was returned to the UK via Dubai on 1 October, eight days after the family flew back home. A coroner in the UK then requested a second post-mortem examination because the results of an autopsy in Egypt were inconclusive, according to family lawyers investigating the incident. Still a fugitive AUTHORITIES have denied reports that former MP and political activist Mustafa Al-Naggar has forcibly disappeared. Last week, the Cassation Court handed Al-Naggar a three-year jail term in a case popularly known as insulting the judiciary. Al-Naggar was not present during the trial. His lawyer Negad Al-Borai told the court he had no idea about his whereabouts. News about his detention at a central security camp recently spread on social media. The State Information Service (SIS) stressed in a statement that rumours and allegations about Al-Naggar's enforced disappearance were false and that he is still a fugitive, evading serving the sentence issued against him. “Any allegations insinuating otherwise are merely baseless claims attempting to evade the implementation of judicial rule,” the statement added.
