Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty expressed full support for the vital role played by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) within the verification system of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and its statute. In a phone call with IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi, Abdel-Aty stressed Egypt's commitment to upholding the credibility of the treaty as a cornerstone of the global non-proliferation regime. He voiced Egypt's keenness to continue coordination and cooperation with the agency. Abdel-Aty underscored the importance of maintaining the ceasefire between Iran and Israel and prioritising diplomatic solutions in addressing the Iranian nuclear file. He said such efforts would help achieve calm, reduce tensions, and enhance regional peace and stability. The Egyptian minister listened to Grossi's assessment of the current developments, outcomes of his contacts, and possible paths to de-escalation in the current sensitive situation in pursuit of a political settlement. For his part, Grossi praised Egypt's pivotal role in supporting regional security and stability. He commended Cairo's efforts to de-escalate tensions and secure a ceasefire that would allow the resumption of negotiations between the parties. Grossi also welcomed the outcome of his visit to Cairo earlier this month, expressing deep appreciation for the honour of meeting President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and the President's unwavering support for a peaceful resolution of the Iranian nuclear issue. He also noted Egypt's backing for the non-proliferation regime and the establishment of a nuclear-weapon-free zone and other weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East.
