Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Monday reaffirmed the country's longstanding support for nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, stressing the aim of achieving a world free of nuclear weapons. President Sisi reiterated Egypt's consistent call for the establishment of a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East. He expressed hope that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) would strengthen its role in supporting efforts to universalise the Non-Proliferation Treaty and to rid the region of nuclear weapons. During his meeting in Cairo with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, Sisi praised the agency's vital role in promoting nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation. He noted its contribution to international peace and security, alongside expanding peaceful uses of nuclear energy. He also expressed appreciation for ongoing efforts to broaden cooperation between Egypt and the agency. The president also reviewed Egypt's efforts to restore regional stability, stressing the need for a comprehensive approach to address all aspects of regional security to ensure peace in the Middle East. For his part, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi commended Egypt's active and historic role in nuclear disarmament, as well as the efforts it continues to undertake in this field.
