Al Kahila gallery's summer show features over 100 artists including Mohamed Damarawy, Taha Abdel-Aal, Asmaa Taqaieddin, Dina Fadeel and Britt Botrous Ghali. Britt Boutros-Ghali shows evidence of her 40 years living in Egypt. She creates vibrant and colourful paintings, many of them portraits of women. Born in Svolvaer, Northern Norway in 1937, where she was influenced by the saturation of light in the summer and its complete absence in winter while her family endured the pressures of the World War II, Britt Boutros-Ghali is one of 20th-century Norway's most important artists. Steeped in abstract expressionism, she studied painting and sculpture with Ellen Christensen and Ferdinand Lunde in Oslo in the late 1950s, showing her earliest work at the Galerie de l'Universite in Paris in 1965. Since then she has exhibited all over the world, and her work is widely collected, both privately and in public institutions worldwide. In 1996, she was awarded the St. Olav's Order, the highest honour given to an artist, by King Haakon of Norway, for promoting Norway abroad through her art. Located on the banks of the Nile, her studio serves as a place of abundance, not only for local artists to meet but also for people who travel from afar to see and collect her work. Egypt's rich and colourful environment has been a great influence on her. The exhibition is open until 31August.
