(sunrise) is the latest exhibition of paintings by Mohamed Dessouki currently on display at Grant gallery. Dessouki is famed for his distinctive and warm palette of colours, inspired by the impact of the sun rays of the South, as well as his very high romantic sense. His lines are expressive without entering into the boring details and his works reflect the richness of colours, he is keen to convey the spirit of the Egyptian life in nature and people with a strong focus on the natural colours characterizing the Egyptian environment without a rigid commitment to simulate nature. He received his BA in philosophy in 1990 and finished his postgraduate studies in the High Institute of Folk Arts and his diploma of the High Institute of Criticism at the Appreciation of Art Department, Art Academy in 1992 and a diploma in folk arts from the High Institute of Folk Arts, 2004. He is a member of the Fine Artists Association, the Cairo Atelier Group of Artists and Writers, Al-Ghoury Atelier Artists' Studios, and Asala Society for Conserving Traditional Art and Heritage. He held a number of solo shows including an exhibition the Indian Cultural Centre and the Cairo Atelier in 1999. He participated in 100 collective exhibitions such as many travelling exhibitions organized by the Ministry of Culture since 1986, the third Port Said Biennale, 1996, the 3rd Salon of Miniatures, 1999, The First Black and White Drawing Salon at Gezira Arts Centre in 2004 and the 29th National Art Exhibition, 2005 and at Abaad gallery in the Museum of Modern Egyptian Art, January 2008. The exhibition continues until 23 May.
