Grant gallery presents artist Mohamed Dessouki's latest exhibition entitled “Nostalgia” where he showcases 35 oil paintings that depict the architecture of Nubia and Upper Egypt in an expressionist and rather figurative style. Dessouki gained his reputation for his extremely unique palette of colours that is very true to reality with a high romantic touch. His colours are very warm influenced by the brilliant sunshine of the southern Egypt, his lines are bold, direct and expressive void of any monotonous details. The richness of his colours is vibrantly echoed on the canvas and he managed as well to reflect the spirit of the traditional Egyptian rural lifestyles whether nature or people focusing on the natural colours characterising the Egyptian natural environment without a strong adherence to the imitation of nature specifically in Aswan and its southern environs where the old and the new Nubia are located. He also depicts scenes from the Qurna village close to Luxor and added to it a vivid spirit imaging the kind of life that should be realized in this part added to the Egyptian soil. Dessouki received his BA in philosophy, 1990. He finished his postgraduate studies in the High Institute of Folk Arts. He also obtained a diploma in the art appreciation at the High Institute of Criticism, Art Academy in 1992. Part of his artworks are on permanent show at the Museum of Modern Egyptian Art, and in the Croatian, Venezuelan and South African embassies in Cairo, as well as the Egyptian Embassy in Paris, Potsdam governorate in Germany and the Cairo-based League of the Arab States. Part of his collection is owned by art lovers in Washington, Germany, Korea, Belgium, France, Armenia, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait. The exhibition is on until 8 May.
