“Colours of Life”, a photographic exhibition by Indian photographer Haran Kumar is presented by the Embassy of India in Egypt, in collaboration with Teamwork Arts, as part of the activities of the 4th edition of the India by the Nile Festival 2016 at Al-Hanager Arts Centre located on the Cairo Opera Complex.
Haran Kumar, an award-winning, Delhi-based photographer with a 14 year long photographic experience, had morphed from very humble beginnings to emerge as a distinguished Indian artist. He left home at the age of 11 with just 20 rupees in his pocket to become a resident of a reluctant railway station. In 2001, an international photography workshop changed Kumar's life. He was given a roll of film, a camera and asked to shoot whatever he wanted to. He chose the street life as he wanted to portray the dreams, desires and aspirations of people who lived literally on the street. He took pictures of street children who are not cared for, who have hope in their eyes, as one of them, and captured the vibrant colours of street life, the unanswered questions in the eyes of street children, their zeal to live happily, and their will to make a mark. Today after many National and International exhibitions, the world is his playground. The exhibition will be opened on 30 April and entry is free and all are invited to sample the different colours of our lives. The exhibition will continue through 3 May.
