¨ On the Occasion of Semester Opening Day 2013, Tu Berlin Campus-Al Gouna held a ceremony welcoming the new students, and Nesmahar Sayed was there. The ceremony started with a welcome speech by Jörg Steinbach, President of Tu Berlin welcoming the new academic year students. Special thanks were addressed to the founder of the campus, Samih Sawiris, chairman of Orascom Development Holdings. Sawiris, who was described by the German ambassador Michael Bock as Mr Sustainability, spoke to the students: “Success is a long way. Enjoy and study, I have done it and it works very well.” Hossam Eissa, minister of education, mentioned in his speech that Egypt is in need of collective research. Bock agreed with Eissa adding that “Egypt is in need to reinvent itself.” Ganat Al-Samalouti, executive director at the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development, together with Steinbach, distributed the certificates among the new students and had photos taken with them. During her first visit to Egypt and Al-Gouna Campus, Sandra Scheeres, senator for education, youth and science spoke about the importance of education and international cooperation in terms of science, politics and the economy. Also present were Kester Von Kuczkowski, senior advisor of education, transfer and chief administrative officer of Tu Berlin Campus Al-Gouna, Stefan Wolf, professor Adjunto International at UNISS, Cuba, who spoke about the German Education System, Michael Harms, director of the German Egyptian Exchange Service (DAAD) Office in Cairo. The event was also attended by Ambassador at the Federal Foreign Office Heinrich Kreft and General Manager of the Cairo Goethe Institute, North Africa and the Middle East Gabriele Becker.
