Mohamed Salah and Al-Nenni had a mixed week in terms of results this week with Basel. First, they welcomed Schalke at home in their second match in the Champions League campaign aiming to snatch another win after their marvelous win at Chelsea in their first game. Unfortunately, things didn't exactly go as they wished as they suffered a very disappointing loss by a single goal. Salah played the whole game and was Swiss Basel's best player on the pitch by a mile. The electric Egyptian winger caused havoc to the opponents' defenders with every single touch especially in the first half where he tormented their full backs. However, the only thing missing from Salah's display was the final ball as in some cases his decision making let him down. Salah's teammates weren't at their best during the 90 minutes and couldn't help our Egyptian star in rescuing a point at least. The defeat is a huge blow to Basel's dream of securing qualification as Chelsea defeated Steaua Bucharest 4-0 in Romania in the other game of the group to move second after Schalke who top the group after collecting maximum points from their first two games. Basel now drop to third place and will have to defeat Steaua Bucharest in Romania in their next game to keep their dream alive. Al-Nenni was an unused substitute in this game. Turning to the league, Basel and Salah made sure they overcame the disappointing defeat by defeating Lausanne Sport 2-1 away from home despite playing with 10 men for the 40 minutes of the game after Striker Sio saw the red. Both Al-Nenni and Salah started the game with the latter playing a key role in his side's first goal as his exquisite shot came off the goalkeeper into the back of the net after hitting the post. Salah wouldn't be crazy to think it's his goal but unfortunately the rules credit these kind of goals as own goals. Apart from the goal, Salah was excellent throughout the 85 minutes he played and looked very dangerous in counter attacks. The equaliser inspired Basel as they entered the second half fired up and managed to find a winning goal in the 59th minute to go back home with all three points. Al-Nenni played the whole game and looked comfortable in possession as he dictated the play well. The win takes Basel to the top of the table three points clear of Grasshoppers who's yet to play this week. Still in Switzerland, Salah wasn't the only Egyptian to shine this week as Mahmoud Abdel-Moneim, or Kahraba, scored his first goal for Luzern in their 2-0 win over Zurich away from home. Kahraba started the game in the starting XI for the first time since joining the club and quickly showed why he should be starting week in week out with a devastating display that saw him score once and come close several times. Kahraba seemed so keen to repay the faith shown in him as he ran his socks off from the first minute until he left the pitch in the 78th minute. Kahraba's goal came in the 39th minute after he finished delightfully underneath the keeper after he went one on one with him. Kahraba celebrated his goal by making a heart sign to the fans to show them his appreciation for their support. Kahraba could have scored two or three more goals in the game as he wasted some chances but fortunately he will be remembered for the good reasons only as his team managed to win comfortably at the end. The win takes Luzern to fourth place in the league table. In England, Ahmed Al-Mohamadi and Hull City continued their unbeaten run as they played a goalless draw at home against Aston Villa. In a dull affair, Al-Mohamadi and his teammates weren't really at their best but they still managed to earn another valuable point in front of their home fans. Al-Mohamadi had a quiet game at the right flank as he defended superbly but his crosses somehow were below par by his standards. On the other hand, Gedo wasn't included in the match squad as he's still putting extra shifts with the reserves and playing some behind the doors friendly games to get him up to speed after his injury. Hopefully he'll see action after the international break. The draw took Hull City to eighth place one place above the mighty Manchester United. In the championship, Adam Al-Abd watched his team get well beaten by Nottingham Forest 3-1 at home. Once again, Al-Abd was an unused substitute as his side played a very bad game defensively and shipped in three comic goals. Obviously, Al-Abd isn't even close to making any appearances for his team in the near future unless all the regular centre backs suffer injuries. The Egyptian centre back suffered another disappointment as he was overlooked for the squad Egypt's crucial World Cup qualifying game against Ghana. In Belgium, Hossam Ghali and Ahmed Samir Farag helped Lierse record a vital win as they defeated Mons who sit at the bottom of the league table 2-1. Both Ghali and Farag played the full game and had a very good day at the office. Ghali was at his very best in the middle of the park in terms of creativity and passing and time and time again created chances for the strikers who couldn't finish off any of his killer passes. On the left flank, Farag was brilliant as well as he defended and attacked in admirable fashion. The win takes Lierse to 10th place. In Portugal, Ahmed Hassan Kouka helped Rio Ave clinch a vital win away from home as they defeated Academia 1-0. Even though Kouka didn't score or assist the goal, the Egyptian striker was excellent throughout the game as his link up with the midfielders was key in his side's dominant display. Kouka came close to scoring on a couple of occasions but the keeper denied him with smart saves. The win took Rio Ave to 10th place in the league table. Arab and African: In England, Nigeria's striker Peter Odemwengie scored Cardiff's only goal of the game as they suffered a home loss at the hands of Newcastle 2-1. In Germany, Cameroonian striker Choopo Mouting scored a last minute equaliser for Mainz as his club snatched a 2-2 draw at home against Hoffenheim. Still in Germany, Kevin Prince Boateng scored Schalke's first goal of the game from the spot kick as they defeated Augsburg 4-1 at home. In Italy, another Ghanaian played a starring role as Sully Muntari scored a brace in Milan's 3-2 defeat at the hands of Juventus. In Spain, Moroccan winger Nabil el Zhar scored a brilliant goal for Levante as they suffered a 3-2 loss at the hands of Real Madrid at home. In France, Ghanaian attacker Andre Ayew scored from the penalty spot to give Marseille the lead against Paris Saint German only to see his side concede two goals after that to suffer a defeat at home. Still in France, Algerian midfielder Ryad Bedebouz and Tunisian attacker Wahbi Khazri both scored for Bastia as they defeated Lorient 4-1 at home. Ivorian striker Salomon Kalou scored Lille's third goal as they defeated Ajaccio by three goals to nothing with the Ivorian star adding an assist to his goal. In Turkey, Didier Drogba scored by Galatasaray suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of new comers Akhisar Beladiye.
