The Corridoris the latest exhibition of paintings by pioneer artist Mervat Refaat, currently on show at the Salama Gallery in Mohandeseen. In this show, Refaatendeavoured envisions a corridor that links the bitter difficulties of reality with her past life, filled with the dreams and fantasies in which she used to spend most of her time. In a very poetic and philosophical manner, she expounds on this corridor, desmonstrating masterful use of pastels and reflecting her trademark interest in the Egyptian oasis landscape and Bedouine life. Refaat belongs to the first generation of modern Egyptian artists and she learned pastel painting at the hands of Egyptian icons such as Hussein Bikar, Ahmed Sabri and Salah Taher. Born in Minya, she fell in love painting at the age of five and although she is a Faculty of Arts, English Department graduate, she devoted her life to art, studying at the Faculty of Fine Arts as well. Since 1985, she has held solo exhibitions in Egypt and abroad. The exhibition is running through 28 February.
