Interestingly entitled Yes3ed Saba7ak (Have A Good Morning), the latest exhibition of paintings by artist Abdel Aal Hassan is currently on display at Picasso gallery in Zamalek. It showcases 55 paintings using different art media such as water-colours and pastel on paper and oil on canvas. The authentic facial features of the Egyptian peasant woman in rural Egypt are vividly depicted in his paintings showing in a meticulous manner the costumes and the earings and necklaces characteristic of the feminine peasantry that are inspired by the folk and religious heritage that goes back to the era of the ancient Egyptians. The pharaonic is an era that has inspired the artist to create most of his paintings since the beginning of his art career in 1966. “While touring the souks in the rural areas, the artist used to recall the same stereotypical woman that was sculpted by the ancient Egyptian artist thousand years past, who is carrying over her head a basket full of fruits and vegetables and holding a goose in her hand,” Hassan remarked on the show. He also explained that the reason behind naming the exhibition Yes3ed Saba7ak (Have A Good Morning) is that in the city people usually say good morning to start a new day but in rural Egypt, peasants answer you back Yes3ed Saba7ak or have a good morning. The painting in the picture is produced in oil. The exhibition is running through 30 November.
