We were anxious, not complacent: Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi denies Nigeria took it easy during 2-0 win over Ethiopia which secured their qualification for World Cup in Brazil
Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi has acknowledged his players were not at their best during their 2-0 win over Ethiopia in Saturday's World Cup playoff second-leg. A penalty from Victor Moses and a sweetly struck free kick from Victor Obinna ensured Nigeria became the first African country to qualify for next year's World Cup finals after beating Ethiopia 4-1 on aggregate. "We were not complacent but I noticed that my players showed anxiety to qualify," Keshi told a post-game press conference. The Super Eagles coach also thanked the country's government and football association for supporting the team during the qualifiers. "I particularly thank President Goodluck Jonathan for bringing good luck to the team and Gov. Liyel Imoke for the wonderful assistance to the team. "I thank the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) for their wonderful support that made us to qualify," he added. October's first leg in Addis Ababa finished 2-1 to Nigeria. "We beat them in Addis Ababa and beat them again in Calabar. The game has been played and a winner emerged," Keshi concluded.
