Nigeria suffer strikers blow Nigeria coach Samson Siasia may face an attacking dilemma as he could miss four key forwards ahead of Sunday's clash against Ethiopia in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers
In his first official test with the Nigerian Super Eagles, newly-appointed coach Samson Siasia is struggling upfront as Osaze Odemwingie, Obafemi Martins and Victor Anichebe failed to train on Thursday, while former England youth striker Victor Moses hasn't been cleared yet by the FIFA. Nigeria will host Ethiopia on Sunday and need to win as they are secondin group B, with three points behind leaders Guinea. “He (Odemwingi) is a very important member of the squad and I must confess his injury came as a shock but we are hoping he gets well before Sunday. If not, we have other players who can hold but I hope he recovers on time,” Siasia was quoted as saying on CAFonline.com. The Super Eagles coach will have to wait until Saturday to make a final decision on these players, but he still has other options with Kalu Uche, Peter Utaka and Ahmed Musa ready to spearhead the attack. “We will not disappoint. It's a match we must win. We cannot afford to lose or draw the match because the result on 27March will decide our fate. I am optimistic that we will come out victorious after the game,” Siasia added. “I have a lot of young players in the squad because I need players who will play for the entire duration of the match, without showing signs of tiredness. I need players who will play attacking football throughout the 90 minutes. “Most importantly we need players who can get the job done; players who are determined and proud to wear the green and white colours of the country,” he concluded. Siasia took over the National team last November succeeding Austin Eguavoen. The former Nigeria U20 and Olympic coach has been trying to rebuild his squad over the past few months and made a tour in Europe to convince players with Nigerian origins to honour the colours of the countries.
