Small rallies in support of ousted president Morsi kick off Friday, marking beginning of proposed week of protests

Egypt's state news agency MENA reported that "limited" rallies in support of ousted president Mohamed Morsi kicked off from several Mosques in Greater Cairo on Friday, marking the beginning of what a Brotherhood-led coalition said would be a week of protests.
Dubbed the 'Suez resilience, our way to Jerusalem', the protests are being staged in condemnation of the military, who Morsi supporters accuse of carrying out a "coup" against an elected president.
Morsi was ousted by the army on 3 July following mass protests calling for his overthrow.
MENA said small rallies started from Maadi and Nasr City in Cairo and the Giza and Mohandesseen districts in Giza, among other areas.
The marches called for Morsi's reinstatement, a demand his supporters have been adamant about, despite a crackdown against them by security forces. Egypt's interim government is pushing ahead with a transitional roadmap that the Brotherhood has refuted.
As had been the case during several previous Fridays, security forces have closed down main squares across the city out of fear the Brotherhood will start sit-ins to push their demands.
Cairo's famous Tahrir Square was closed, as well as the Mostafa Mahmoud and Sphinx Squares in Mohandesseen, and Rabaa Al-Adawiya Square in Nasr City - where the main pro-Morsi sit-in was violently dispersed last August, leaving hundreds dead.
The title of Friday's protests takes inspiration from popular resistance to the Israeli occupation of Suez in 1973, according to a statement by the Brotherhood-led National Coalition in Support of Legitimacy.
