Egypt's Ismaily in rare transfer victory over arch-rivals Ahly Ismaily beat bitter foes Ahly to signing promising playmaker Mohamed Farouk 'Zika' after a transfer tug-of-war
Egypt's struggling outfit Ismaily recorded a rare transfer victory over Cairo giants Ahly after acquiring the services of promising playmaker Mohamed Farouk 'Zika' from Arab Contractors on Tuesday. Earlier this week, local reports said Ahly had all but signed Zika but the player made a sudden U-turn to snub the overtures of Egypt's wealthiest and most stable club. "After a long struggle, Ismaily have succeeded in signing Zika on a four-year deal," the coastal club said on their official website on Tuesday. "Ismaily will pay Arab Contractors LE500,000 and a further LE250,000 will be paid on two instalments for the transfer." Ahly are often criticized by Ismaily for making the most of their financial muscle to deprive the cash-strapped Dervishes of their prized assets. The Red Devils have signed many prominent Ismaily players during the past 20 years, including now-retired attacking midfielder Mohamed Barakat who went on to become one of Ahly's pillars during a hugely successful reign that yielded many domestic and continental trophies. Most of Egypt's clubs are struggling to stay afloat after the Premier League was called off for the second consecutive season due to the lingering security concerns that followed the army's ouster of President Mohamed Morsi on 3 July. Some have offloaded many of their players while others had to delay payments for their footballers due to persistent financial woes.
