AC MilanGhanaian forward Kevin-Prince Boateng sent a letter to the Ghana FA (GFA) saying that he is available to play for the Black Stars again after almost two years of international retirement. "I write to inform the Ghana Football Association that after a few consultations, I have decided to change my decision and confirm my availability to play for the Black Stars whenever I am needed," Boateng said in a letter that was published by the GFA on Thursday. The GFA welcomed Boateng's decision, saying that his return will "surely re-energise the Black Stars for our future challenges" in a statement by GFA general-secretary Emmanuel Gyimah. Boateng's letter provides some good news for coach Kwesi Appiah who might need the skill and strength of the forward in next month's World Cup qualifier decider against Zambia. The German-born player has been cleared by FIFA in 2010 to represent Ghana, his country of origin. The 26-year-old midfielder was one of the Black Stars' best performers during their successful 2010 World Cup campaign, when they reached the quarter finals. The display revived his fading career, earning him a move to Italian giants AC Milan from English side Portsmouth. Soon afterwards, Boateng declined several call ups from the national team because of injury before announcing his international retirement on November 2011 to focus on his club career. With only 10 months left until the World Cup in Brazil, Boateng seems to not want to miss the most prestigious show, should the Black Stars make it through the final games. Ghana are top of the Group D with 12 points, one ahead of Zambia. They need to avoid losing at home on 9 September in the final round of the group stage to secure the top of the group then win the play-off match to reach the World Cup finals.
