Cairo banks to close branches near to protest sites on Sunday Banks near to planned protest sites including Tahrir Square and the presidential palace will shut their doors on Sunday, although other Cairo branches will remain open
A number of banks have said they will not open branches close to protest sites in Cairo on Sunday. A number of sources within the banking sector, who asked to remain anonymous, told Ahram's Arabic website that branches close to Tahrir Square and the presidential palace in Heliopolis will be closed. Other branches will remain open. Bureaus of exchange have not yet taken a collective decision as to whether or not to remain open. Mohamed El-Abyad, head of the Foreign Exchange Section at the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce, told Ahram Arabic that “each member has the freedom to choose whether to open or not, according to circumstances he faces, as well as his location.” Nationwide protests against President Mohamed Morsi are planned for Sunday, with rallies expected in Cairo's Tahrir Square and at the Ittihadiya presidential palace in Heliopolis. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/75240.aspx
