Ahly strikers Meteb, Abdel-Zaher may play role in World Cup qualifiers Emad Meteb and Ahmed Abdel-Zaher are likely to feature in Pharaohs' squad in next month's World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Mozambique
Egypt assistant coach Diaa El-Sayed expressed his delight over good performances by Ahly strikers Emad Meteb and Ahmed Abdel-Zaher, saying that the duo may play a role in upcoming matches against Zimbabwe and Mozambique in World Cup qualifiers slated for next month. ''Meteb and Abdel-Zaher could be included in the Pharaohs' squad in the upcoming two games," El-Sayed told Ahly's official website on Thursday. The Pharaohs' assistant coach, who visited the club on Thursday, stressed that the final list had not yet been compiled. Meteb – a key member of the Pharaohs winning Africa Cup campaigns in 2006, 2008 and 2010 – has struggled this year, failing to score any goals. He appeared, however, to rediscover his edge over the past two months. Abdel-Zaher, meanwhile, has recently produced a string of strong showings, scoring three goals to become the team's top scorer this season. The Pharaohs technical staff is currently searching for a replacement for injured striker Mohamed Nagy 'Gedo,' who will be sidelined for at least two months due to a foot injury he sustained while playing for championship side Hull City. Egypt, who currently lead group G in African qualifiers with nine points, are slated to play two away games against Zimbabwe and Mozambique next June.
