Ghana's Essien wants to re-establish himself at Chelsea The Ghanaian midfielder intends to win back his regular place at Chelsea when his loan spell at Real Madrid ends in the summer
Ghana's Michael Essien said on Wednesday he is determined to re-establish himself at Chelsea after spending a season-long loan at Spanish giants Real Madrid. The injury-plagued central midfielder has made 30 appearances with Real this season, scoring one goal. He has been recently used by coach Jose Mourinho as a right-back. "I will return to Chelsea with my head up and try to win my place back," Essien was quoted as saying by Sky Sports. "I think my loan at Madrid has shown I have still got it at the top level." The 30-year-old put in a fine display in Tuesday's European Champions League clash against Dortmund, which Real won 2-0 but exited the competition at the last-four stage following a narrow 4-3 aggregate defeat. English reports suggested that Mourinho might return to his former club Chelsea in the summer. Essien joined Chelsea from French side Lyon in the summer of 2005 when Mourinho was in charge of the Blues.
