Handball: Egypt sports minister to honour Ahly for African success Ahly beat Tunisia's AS Hammamet 31-18 on Saturday to lift African Handball Winners' Cup
Egyptian Sports Minister El-Amry Farouk has congratulated Ahly for winning the African Handball Winners' Cup and promised them a warm reception. The Red Devils defeated Tunisia's AS Hammamet 31-18 in the final on Saturday in a one-side game that was 18-9 at half time. "I am really happy with the championship. The players played like men and they earned the trophy," Ahly manager Assem Hammad was quoted as saying on the club's official website. "We went through the hard way, especially when we got attacked by Tunisian fans following the Etoile Sportive du Sahel game," he added. Tunisia's Etoile Sportive du Sahel beat Ahly 28-25 on 16 April in the Super African Handball Cup. "What happened in the first match against Sahel was just a blip and we were able to defeat them in the semifinal of the Winners' Cup," the team's skipper Karim El-Said said.
