Zamalek 'Egypt's Real Madrid,' says Abbas Egypt's premier athletic club shined this weekend in continental football, handball and volleyball competitions
Zamalek Chairman Mamdouh Abbas has expressed his delight over the club's successive weekend victories. "Zamalek is Egypt's Real Madrid. Sunday was one of the most memorable days in the club's history. I'm very happy we were able to please the fans," Abbas said in televised comments on Sunday. On Saturday, the Whites won 2-0 in an away match against Maghreb Fez in round 16 of the CAF Champions League. The club's volleyball team, meanwhile, clinched the men's African Club Championship title after defeating Tunisia's Etoile Sportive du Sahel 3-1 in the final on Sunday. Also on Sunday evening, Zamalek's handball team competed for the African Cup of Cup Winners final, but was ultimately defeated by Tunisian champions Etoile Sportive du Sahel 23-18.
