Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan is ecstatic for being given the Black Stars armband permanently. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) have reportedly decided to name Al Ain striker, Gyan, as the captain of the national team after leading them to book a place at next year's Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa. Gyan, who will take the armband from Club-less skipper John Mensah, was the Stars' captain for the second time, when they defeated Malawi in the two legs to reach the continental prestigious tournament finals. “It's a great honour and privilege to be given the responsibility of captaining the Black Stars,” the 26-year-old striker efused to GHANAsoccernet.com “I am really proud and excited to be given such a huge role. We are a united team determined to work hard for our country," he added. The former Sunderland player appearance against Malawi in September was his first with the Ghana team in six months. He had earlier decided to take a break from international duty after being severely criticised for Ghana's frustrating fourth-place finish in the last African Cup of Nations in February. Gyan is now targeting success in his new mission to lead his country for its first African title in 31 years. “I'm looking forward to my new role and by the grace of God and with the support of my teammates and the Ghanaian people, I believe we'll go places," concluded Gyan.
