A folk band who have been producing music together for seven years take El-Geneina's stage, bringing forward music about the daily life of the young. The band's name, directly derived from culture, means the music shop or the place where people sing.

Folkloric Groups in El Mastaba Center for Egyptian Folk Music at 9pm
An evening with the Black Pearls, NubaNour at El Dammah Theater for Arts (formerly Al Tanbura Hall) where the audience will be invited to relive the arts of Nuba, the cradle of many art forms.

Ziad Bakir Photography Exhibition in Faculty of Fine Arts
Photography by one of the revolution's martyrs from the artistic community, Ziad Bakir, will be on show until 22 September. Bakir worked at the Cairo Opera House heading the Graphic Design Department; photography was his hobby. Read more here.

Peace Day Celebration in Darb 1718 at 2pm
The all-day event brings together musicians, NGOs and cultural institutes to celebrate and raise awareness of peace on International Peace Day. Lineup includes Salalem, Like Jelly, Ze Khodz, High on Body Fat, Ahmed Safi, Abu Mariam, Shady Ahmed and his band, Rash Radio and the Kassettes. Read more here.

Black Lips and Lazzy Lung concert in El Sawy Culturewheel at 7pm
The American rock band Black Lips makes its Egypt debut this Friday, sharing the stage with hit Lebanese punk band Lazzy Lung along with two local bands, Zero 50 and Faking it. The performance will be the second stop on the The Black Lips/Lazzy Lungs Middle East tour, which kicks off in Cypress on 19 September.

Opera Aida at the Cairo Opera House at 8pm
Aida is among the best known works by Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi. It is also one of the Egyptian audiences' favourites. It will be performed on four evenings, 21, 23, 24 and 25 September at 8pm. Read more about Aida here.

Tamer Abu Ghazala concert in El-Geneina Theater at 8.30pm
Abu Ghazala sings and plays oud with music inspired by traditional poetry from the region. Most of his songs are in Palestinian and Egyptian dialect. Shadi El-Husseiny (piano), Khyam Allami (drums) and Mahmoud Waly (bass) will be accompanying him.

Walk Talk Graffiti Book launch in Sherouk Bookstore at 7.30pm
This photo book documents the graffiti movement of Egypt in relation to the revolution from January 2011 to June 2012. The book is put together by activists Rasha Azab and Malek Mostafa, and includes various photographic contributions. All proceedings from the book sale will go to support the citizen journalism initiative Mosireen.

Mozart evening at the Cairo Opera House at 8pm
The Cairo Symphony Orchestra under the baton of the Czech conductor Jiri Pertdlik will perform works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart along with Max Reger's Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Mozart.

Sheila Scribner at El Genaina Theatre at 8.30pm
American singer and songwriter Sheila Scribner was born in Nashville in 1984. Her music ranges from blues to pop to religious. In Cairo, she has performed at the Cairo Opera House and Cairo Jazz Club.

Art therapy in Sufi Bookstore at 5pm

Shima Youssef and Dr Suzan Radwan, who were mentored by one of the best art therapy practitioners in Egypt, the late Dr Magdi Refaat, offer people a space to explore their personality and feelings through painting. Ahmed Basiony Exhibition Opening in AUC Sharjah Gallery at 6pm
The American University in Cairo celebrates the life and work of Egyptian artist Ahmed Basiony who died during the revolution in several locations around Cairo. The opening will take place in Sharjah Gallery with the exhibition of his project “30 Days Running in Place” (2010-2011).

The Seventh Billion Citizen by various Artists in Townhouse Gallery at 7pm
For one week, Townhouse Gallery will feature this collaborative video project featuring five international artists curated by John Gillett and Beth Harland. The project is a response at the United Nations announcement that the world population has now reached seven billion people, which raises questions about the rapid growth of the human population and all the issues surrounding it.
