Campaigners for Muslim Brotherhood presidential hopeful Mohamed Morsi on Tuesday published a compendium of results of this weekend's presidential runoff showing Morsi to be the winning candidate. The book contained photocopies of voting results culled from polling stations in all of Egypt's 27 governorates, replete with official stamps and signatures of supervising judges. The book aims to prove that Morsi succeeded in garnering 52 per cent of the vote (13,238,298 votes), while Mubarak-era premier Ahmed Shafiq won 48 per cent (12,351,184). "The figures are based on polling station results issued on Sunday and Monday, along with the tally of expatriate votes,” a Morsi campaign spokesperson said. Hours after polling stations shut their doors on Sunday evening, Morsi campaigners began uploading the documents onto Morsi's official website for the public to examine. In a related development, theShafiq campaign held a press conference at its headquarters in Cairo's Dokki district, at which campaign officials challenged Brotherhood claims of a Morsi victory. "Neither we, nor our rival's campaign, have the authority to announce final numbers, but our calculations confirm that our candidate received 51 per cent of the vote," Shafiq campaign official Karim Salem declared. Shafiq spokesman Ahmed Sarhan, for his part, reiterated claims that the Morsi campaign was circulating "false results." Morsi campaigners, added Sarhan, had "announced results before half of the vote-counting was even finished." Shafiq campaign officials also threatened to take legal action to prove their candidate's electoral victory, saying that they "would have remained silent were it not for the Morsi campaign's premature declarations of victory."
