Nigeria players not to blame for lack of unity and discipline, says skipper Yobo Nigeria captain Joseph Yobo analyses the reasons of the deterioration of the Super Eagles in recent years
Nigeria captain and centreback for Turksih club Fenerbahce, Joseph Yobo has blamed lack of unity and of discipline as being the main causes of his national team's decline in recent years. “There's been no unity, no discipline. That's what has been the problem with the Super Eagles,” Yobo was quoted as saying by Kickoff.com on Tuesday. "Once you get that invitation to the national team and you accept to come, that is commitment. Players go through a lot to come and play for the national team and to say players are not committed is not fair," added the 31-year old player defending his teammates. The former player for France's Marseille, Yobo, has been playing for the Nigerian team since 2001 and intends to hang up his boots after the 2014 World Cup. "I've been there for 10 years and no trophy to show for it. That's disappointing for me," he said. "After the World Cup 2014, that's my target. I'm flying right now. I've been to the stage where people drop but last two seasons, I only missed two games. I played every minute of all the other games," concluded Yobo. Nigeria, that has not won any titles since winning the 1994 African Nations Cup, recently managed to reach CAN 2013 after defeating Rwanda 2-0 in the qualifiers on Saturday. Recently the Nigerians took third place at the 2002, 2004, 2006 and the 2010 African Nations Cup.
