Nigeria's Etuhu blames poor pitch for Rwanda draw 29-year-old midfielder blames stadium's artificial turf for goalless draw with Rwanda in first leg of CAN qualifiers
Nigeria midfielder Dickson Etuhu on Thursday blamed the artificial pitch at the Stade Regional de Kigali for his team's 0-0 draw with Rwanda in the first leg of 2013 African Cup of Nations (CAN) qualifiers. "What a bad pitch!" Etuhu declared on Twitter after the game. The Fulham star went on to ask Nigeria fans to "be patient" with the team, which, he said, were doing their best to bolster their performance. "We need our fans to be fully behind us from now on," he said. "We understand their frustration, but let's move forward together." The 29-year-old defensive midfielder went on to assert that Nigeria had benefited from the Rwanda game, at which Wigan winger Victor Moses made his debut and Joseph Yobo earned his 87th cap for the national team – a new record for the Super Eagles. "We came away with a goalless draw. Everybody expected us to win, but that's football," Etuhu said. "Tell our fans they'll see better results next time." The second leg will be held in Abuja in June.
